Out in the Wealdon countryside a Lord North was enjoying a relaxing ride when he spotted a Heath giving spring. Lord North at the time had Tuberculosis and of course stopped at the spring immediately. After then drinking the rusty toned water he proclaimed that he was healed and immediately told all of his comrades in London of the miracle spring. What Lord North; or anyone at the time, was not aware of is that the spring was actually a Chalybeate spring which a phrase that means the water had Iron in it.

Quickly following Lord Norths declaration his Aristocratic friends were visiting the spring in hopes of being healed or maybe just in the hopes of becoming immune to sickness in the future. A well was built shortly after in 1608 with some sparse pavement around it. A little less than 30 years in 1626 a walk was created which is the famed Pantilies and shops selling luxury goods were set out along the 175 yard long walk. With the building of the first to houses on the lot, one was for men and the other for women. The small spring was now a rival to the bath house in Brighton.  Read more...

I don’t bother with the hotels proliferating the landscape around the airport when I fly into SFO. I immediately throw myself onto the nearest north-bound BART train and jump off at the Powell Street stop and hoof it for two blocks until I get to Union Square. Once there, my bags in tow and feeling a distinct need to shower and shave, I press on, heading north for another block.

At Sutter Street, I make a left and there it is: the Cartwright Hotel. Though, of course, it is no longer called the Cartwright — now it’s the Larkspur Hotel. Whatever they call it, it’s my home away from home, my Union Square hotel par excellence. I breeze in, confirm my reservation, and it’s off to the shower. I tend to fly into SFO from Newark, New Jersey, so tend to be pretty tired. A nice shower is followed by a quick call to room service, a delicious Cobb salad, and then a nap.  Read more...

Polaris Ohio Lifestyle Center – A great weekend family road trip

Polaris Mall “lifestyle center” joins the ranks of the recent open air trend in shopping centers.

Several new tenants, including the wildly successful Cheesecake Factory have now been included in the choices of local restaurants. The mall resides at a location that used to belog to Kaufmann’s which closed recently. In the Heart of the New York Catskill Mountains, there is a place called Nicks Waterfall House. I have been there many times and it has become one of my favorite places of all time to ride to.

There are times when the stress of our lives and jobs can get even the best of us a little down. If you are a straight lace citizen you go to a Doctor and get some pills or maybe see a shrink. If you are a Biker you hop on your Motorcycle get the motor running and you head out to a place like Nicks Waterfall House.

It does not matter where you are or what direction you come from. The ride threw the NY Catskill Mountains is going to relax the stress away from the depths of your very soul. As you ride to Nick’s threw long winding roads up over and into the heart of some of the worlds most majestic Mountains, with the Sun shining down on you and the fresh Mountain air filling your lungs you will start to get a feeling of what one can only describe as pure joy.  Read more...
