Taking Some Time Off In Taba, Egypt

The small town of Taba Egypt (it used to be Egyptian, then it became Israeli, and then Egyptian again) is situated on the frontier between Israel and Egypt, close to the northernmost tip of the Gulf of Aqaba. This is a major border crossing between these countries, and therefore it is the preferred overnight spot for travelers between them. The whole area is part of the Red Sea Riviera of Egypt.

A couple of years ago you wouldn’t have found much here except the opulent Hilton and the bus stop, but development is slowly arriving in Taba, and there are at least quite a number of cafes in town. Twenty kilometers south of Taba the new development of Taba Heights also signifies that development money is slowly starting to siphon into the area. Taba Heights has a number of expensive hotels, and the diving industry in the area is growing rapidly. Numerous diving courses are available. From Taba Heights you can take a ferry to Aqaba in Jordan (frequent), but this option is only open to tourists who are part of a tour group.
